Sleepover activities

Teddy Bear Introductions

We all brought our favourite teddy bear with us and began our sleepover by introducing our bear, telling a little about the bear and its name.

Bear Bead Craft

We made the pony bead bear from Making Friends except instead of a red shirt, we made the bear shirt pink for Sparks.

Teddy Bear Hunt

While the girls were working on the craft, the Ranger Helper gathered up all the Teddy Bears and hid them in the sleeping room. The girls, armed with their flashlights, proceeded to the sleeping room which had the lights out, and the girls searched for their bear. The rules were they were only allowed to find their own bear and if they found someone else's bear, they were not allowed to tell the girl where it was.

Teddy Bear Toss

Once all the girls had located their bears, we placed them on a sheet and we each took hold of a side of the sheet and tossed the teddy bears into the air. This led to a number of games:

  1. Hot Teddy: The bears were not allowed to touch any of the girls so the girls had to lift the sheet up to keep the bears away from them
  2. Teddy Go: Had to get all the bears off of the sheet.
  3. Teddy Stay: Had to keep all the bears on the sheet for a count of 20.

Parachute Games

This was a carry over from the Teddy Bear Toss. We did not use a real parachute but instead the bed sheet we had used for the Teddy Bear Toss. We played a number of games:

  1. The girls all made the sheet move in a wave motion. The Leader called out the name of two Sparks and the two Sparks whose name was called had to crawl under the waving sheet and change places.
  2. The girls all kneeled down on the ground and held onto the sheet with the sheet touching the ground. On the count of three they all lifted their hands over the head thereby making the sheet arch up. The girls then got inside and let the sheet come down on top of them.

Campfire

We borrowed the Pathfinder's indoor campfire which is a log cabin fire with a red light bulb in the middle. We set the campfire in the middle of the circle and sang Bear Songs and Christmas Carols.

  • Yogi Bear
  • The Bear Song
  • Modified "Going on a Lion Hunt" to "Going on a Bear Hunt".

Snack: Smores

A traditional camp snack was smores. We placed chocolate chip cookies on a cookie sheet, placed four mini-marshmallows on top of the cookies and placed them in the oven for 5 minutes at 350 degrees. When the tops of the marshmallows were brown, we placed another chocolate chip cookie on top and placed them in the oven for another 2 minutes.
