Change of Shoes
Just a reminder:
While the girls are still wearing boots outside please remember
to send a pair of soft soled shoes with your daughter which she
can wear during the meeting. We are very active at our meetings
and socked feet are too dangerous and we do not allow wet boots
into our meeting room.
Museum of Science
and Technology
On Tuesday, February 13 the
Museum of Science and Technology is hosting its annual free
night to Girl Guides of Canada and their families. On this day,
we will be meeting in the lobby of the Museum of Science and
Technology at 6:00 p.m.
Note we will not be meeting at the Church on this evening.
Parents and siblings are welcome
to join us. We will be touring the museum as a unit from 6:00
p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will be returning to the lobby of the
museum at 7:00 p.m. for pick up. You are welcome to stay and
tour the museum with your daughter past 7:00 p.m. but the Spark
Guiders will only be with the unit until 7:00 p.m. Since this
is a Guiding event we ask that the girls please wear their Spark
T.shirt or Spark sweatshirt. Please complete the attached permission
slip and return it next week.
Thinking Day
Thinking Day is February 22 and it is a very special day for all
members of Girl Guides and Boy Scouts as it is the joint birthday
of Lord and Lady Baden Powell, the founders of Girl Guides and
Boy Scouts. The week starting Sunday, February, 18 and ending
Sunday, February 25 is Guide-Scout Week. During this week a number
of events are being held.
District Thinking Day Celebration
at St. Elias Church
Every year our District, Riverside
Park, holds a special Thinking Day Celebration where all Sparks,
Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders in this District come together
to celebrate this very special Guiding Day. On this evening
each unit presents a skit on a WAGGGS country they have been
learning about. This is also the evening girls present the pennies
they have been collecting for the World Friendship Fund. The
prizes from the cookie posters are also presented on this evening
and the evening closes with a campfire and girls singing "Happy
Birthday".
This year the District Thinking
Day Celebration will be held on Thursday, February, 22, 2001
in the Gym of St. Elias Community Centre located on Ridgewood
Drive. We ask that girls please start arriving at 6:15 p.m.
so that we can start sharply at 6:30 p.m. This celebration ends
at 8:00 p.m. but if your daughter is going to be picked up before
8:00 p.m. please let either Amanda or Michelle know ahead of
time. We are meeting in the Gym which can be accessed from the
back of the St. Elias Community Centre. The Centre is located
behind St. Elias Church. Since this is a Guiding event we ask
that the girls please wear their Spark T.shirt or Spark sweatshirt
and don't forget your letter/number with your Thinking Day pennies
on it. Please note this is an amendment to notice which went
home the beginning of January. Since this is on Thursday, there
will be no Spark meeting on Tuesday, February 20.
Guide/Scout Week Campfire at Billings
Bridge Plaza
On Friday, February 23 the
Riverside Park Pathfinders will be hosting a campfire in the
central ‘rotunda' located outside "Fairweathers" at Billings
Bridge. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and we would like Sparks,
Brownies avnd Guides to come and join in the songs. Parents
can drop the Sparks off at the rotunda at 7:00 p.m. and
then run errands around the mall until 8:00 p.m. or sit
up in the food court and watch. One of the Spark Guiders will
be attending this event. Since this is a Guiding event we ask
that the girls please wear their Spark T.shirt or Spark sweatshirt.
If you would like to attend this event please complete the attached
permission slip and return it next week so we know how many
girls to expect.
Guide/Scout Week Display at Billings
Bridge Plaza
On Saturday, February 24
Division is hosting a Girl Guide Display at Billing Bridge Plaza.
Our District is responsible for the 11 a.m. to 12 noon
shift. The girls will be making items out of rolled newspaper
and they will be letting the public see what Girl Guides is
all about. The exact location of this display in the mall is
not known yet. You can drop your daughter off and run errands
in the mall for an hour. One of the Spark Guiders will be attending
this event. Since this is a Guiding event we ask that the girls
please wear their Spark T.shirt or Spark sweatshirt. If your
daughter would like to attend this event, please complete the
attached permission slip and return it next week so we know
how many girls to expect.

We are attempting to organize this for the beginning of March.
Daffodil
Tea and Bazaar: This is our District's major fund
raising event of the year. It is to be held on Saturday, April
7 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Information will be sent home closer
to this event.
Spring
Girl Guide Cookie Selling: This is the week of April
21 - 27. We will be selling cookies either on the Saturday or
the Tuesday night. Information will be sent home closer to this
event.
